preliminary project reflection

From this preliminary project i have learnt a number of things about music videos.

  • In music videos there is fast cutting to multiple locations creating atmosphere which captures the emotion of the song and engages audiences as the video becomes visually dense, which compliments the music.
  • Often people want to copy stars routine and image in the music video. For example the artist Soldier Boy first song was a great dance phenomenon, as audiences copied the steps and mimicked 'Soldier Boys' dress code and style.
  • Music videos promotes and advertises the artist and this is how they differ from films.
  •  Not all music videos have a narrative, nearly all music videos features some kind of musical dance performance.
The use of technology has been used to research about music videos through websites such as You Tube and  Wikipedia. For the preliminary task we took screen shots of the music video (j-lo ft Fat Joe- Hold you down) to create a specific and accurate mood board this would ensure that the music video has been imitated precisely.

This task was different from all my AS projects because the time we was given to complete the task was shorter. Although this made me more focused and the strive to finish the project on time.
The only real challenge when developing and brainstorming about this project was to keep in mind that music videos are often consumed in an environment with lots of distraction and noisy busy bars and clubs, being so used to filming short feature films or title sequences where their is  100% attention to each shot was quite difficult.
